The holiday recognizes the birthday of John Chapman, an American whose apple tree planting became the stuff of legend. Osama El-Tayash holds the flag of Libya at a flag ceremony held during the International Bazaar on the University of Missouri campus. This year was the first year the flag of Lybia has been presented since the annual Bazaar began in 2008, according to event coordinator Tariq Al Yami. EL-Tayash said his family is from Libya, and said today represents a significant moment for him. "It's a big step," he said. "It means a lot because we're finally being recognized." The flag has become the official standard of forces fighting Libyan dictator Muammar Ghaddafi.
